Best of E3 2019

To be honest, I felt nothing really hit me this year at E3. With that said, each conference had a few heavy hitters to show off to the world. Strap in for some hot takes because these are the best games shown at E3, in no particular order.

#21: Halo Infinite

Nobody knows what to expect from the next Halo title, but the new cinematic trailer was spectacular.

#20: Elden Ring

A lot can be speculated due to FromSoftware’s style with Dark Souls and Bloodborne, but nobody knows what they are planning in this collaboration with Game of Thrones author George RR Martin. Wherever the game ends up as when we get an official glimpse into its gameplay, I can say I am sold based on the collaboration alone.

#19: Dying Light 2

Not much more on the parkour centered zombie game besides a new trailer. I am a huge zombie fan and enjoyed the first title despite its issues. I cannot wait to get into this world with my friends and kill the undead.

Dying Light 2 comes out sometime next year for Xbox, PS4, and PC.

#18: 12 Minutes

This trippy trailer was an unexpected treat. A man trapped in a time loop could make for some refreshing storytelling and gameplay. I hope we can see more soon.

It will release next year for Xbox and PC.

#17: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

EA has a license to make Star Wars game for at least ten years, yet I have hated everything they have done so far. Respawn making a story-driven game in this universe looks like a typical linear adventure experience, but that does not take away from how incredible it looks. Please don’t disappoint me.

Releasing on Nov. 15 for Xbox, PS4, and PC.

#16: Deathloop

Another game involving time loops, except this, is an action game where two veteran mercenaries are trying to kill one another. I have no idea what to expect, and that is okay because I will absolutely throw my money at these developers to get my hands on it.

#15: Wolfenstein: Youngblood

The new series of the Wolfenstein franchise is bonkers with all of its blood-filled glory. As a Jewish person, I have a blast taking down Nazis. With Youngblood, I get to do this with a friend. Nothing brings people together, like killing Nazis and playing video games.

Releasing July 26 for all platforms.

#14: DOOM Eternal

Finally, after three years the sequel to the heavy metal infused reboot is coming. DOOM Eternal will ratch up the brutality, fluid movement, and its world to raise up the already high bar that was set by its predecessor.

DOOM Eternal is coming on Nov. 22 for all platforms.

#13: GhostWire: Tokyo

This action-horror game is the most mysterious AAA title we saw this E3. Expecting to come to next-generation consoles, we will have to wait quite sometime before seeing what this project will actually look like.

#12: My Friend Pedro

This action-packed side scroller is coming next week on the 20, and I am beyond excited. You will undoubtedly see it again when I write my review until then you should look into its goofy trailers that stay true to Devolver Digital’s personality.

My Friend Pedro will release on PC and the Switch.

#11: Carrion

A 2D horror platformer where players get to control the monster. This slug-like alien devours everyone in sight, and it looks like a blast.

#10: Maneater

Open world RPGs are incredibly popular, except this one has a twist on it. Tripwire, the developers of Killing Floor, have shown more information on their upcoming SharkPG. Go around the world, eating anything in sight and growing your baby shark into the powerful beast from Jaws, or even greater.

No release date has been set, but PC gamers will have this exclusive RPG.

#9: Borderland 3

Borderlands is one of my favorite series. Not a lot can beat playing with friends to gather loot and defeat over the top bosses in this looter shooter. Now, after seven years after the last main title, and five since its spin-off, we can finally get our hands on the third entry in a few months.

An interview with Paul Sage, the creative director of the upcoming shooter, and he gave plenty of interesting details on the long-awaited sequel. Weapons, leveling up, and endgame information was given with some vague hints at PvP going beyond duals.

Borderlands 3 comes out Sept. 13 for Xbox, PS4, and PC (for the first six months it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive).

#8: Valfaris

A love letter to fans of 2D action platformers and listeners of heavy metal. Extreme music only heightens the chaotic nature of the combat.

TBA 2019 for all platforms.

#7: Remnant: From the Ashes

A coop looter shooter that has a focus on difficulty. The developers emphasized rewards at every step of the game from grand bosses to smaller accomplishments. You will need a squad of reliable players to get through this upcoming game.

Out Aug. 20 for Xbox, PS4, and PC.

#6: Midnight Ghost Hunt

Take the modded game mode Prop Hunt and make the props attack. Midnight Ghost Hunt twists the popular mod into something refreshing. One team of hunters vs. a gang of ghosts.

It will enter alpha this summer.

#5: Chivalry 2

I never played the first, but I have plenty of time under my belt with similar titles like Mordhau. The sequel is a collaboration of the original’s developers and Tripwire to make a more accessible, faster-paced game.

#4: Watch Dogs Legion

My experiences with Watch Dogs is not extensive. I played the flawed first title that introduced the world to Ubisoft’s hacking oriented IP. I enjoyed myself, but it was not what was promised along with lousy writing. The sequel improved upon those problems, but I never had a chance to play despite wanting to get my hands on it. Then a few weeks ago a leak, and later a confirmation for Watch Dogs Legion.

The gameplay video blew me away by its freedom and interesting mechanics on selecting playable characters. Ubisoft got me on this one, I just hope they can deliver.

The third Watch Dogs comes out March 20, 2020, for Xbox, PS4, and PC.

#3: Rainbow Six Quarantine

The next Rainbow game is a zombie spinoff. Players will team up with squads of three to complete objectives and survive against a new threat. This is the first entry since Siege which released four years ago.

Quarantine comes out early 2020 for Xbox, PS4, and PC.

#2: Cyberpunk 2077

Not much was shown except for another closed doors demo. The trailer that was public showed off Keanu Reeves, the most mind-blowing thing to come out from E3 2019. The actor came out to talk about how he will have a role in the upcoming RPG and to show the release date, April 16, 2020, for Xbox, PS4, and PC.

This is my most anticipated game for next year, and I need it as soon as possible. I need a time machine…

#1: Marvel’s Avengers

While the mysterious Avengers title from Square Enix only got a trailer with not much more given, but I am sold because I love Marvel too much to skip. The trailer shows off that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have been framed for an attack and have become outlaws. Now a threat has grown too dangerous that brings back the team.
