• Fans of the popular Showtime series Dexter, myself included, are quite disappointed that the series revival has been shut down. The reason there was this speculation was due to a Facebook post from Euforia Studios that was an authentic looking poster with the release date to be set for September 2018. The lower part of the poster shows Showtime and Netflix to give the idea that the two will collaborate to bring season nine to Netflix. However, showrunners have been able to squash this rumor. What makes this even more interesting is that this fake poster has been around for a while. The original post came about May 9, 2017. Sadly, fans of the friendly serial killer may never get to see him again in a future revival season or any potential spin-offs.

• Fighting games love to put in extra characters outside of the game’s universe. Soul Calibur is not only a prime example of this but the center of this story. For example, the series has previously the series has featured Darth Vader and Yoda. Now there is talk that Geralt from The Witcher series will make an appearance in the upcoming Soul Calibur 6. CD Projekt Red’s community lead Marcin Momot made an interesting tweet that hints at Geralt making this appearance, which you can see right below. Why Soul Calibur 6? Well, this speculation comes from for several reasons. Like it is stated before, the series has featured playable characters from other franchises. On top of that, Bandai Namco distributed The Witcher 3 to Europe so this past relationship could mean something. We won’t know for sure until Soul Calibur is released or an official statement is made. For the fans of fighting games, more specifically to Soul Calibur, you can get your hands on beating your friends later this year on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

 

• Don’t worry fans of The Witcher, you have more speculation coming your way. Just like the story before, this is just speculation. However, just like what you read above, this is picking up a lot of attention along with this is a fun idea. If you are a fan of the series then you know there is a Netflix series that is in the works. Just a few days ago Lauren Hissrich, a writer for the show, was on Twitter to describe Vesemir as a character. Some of these characteristics are “fatherly” and “wise”. A fan drew the conclusion that in some ways that sound like Luke Skywalker and mentioned that Mark Hamill should be in the role. Mark replied that he does not know what they are talking about, but is up for the job anyways. The official Twitter for The Witcher responded with an image of Vesemir with Mark’s face photoshopped on. Including Lauren Hissrich who’s reply expressed how surprised and happy, she feels for Mark’s response. You can see all of these tweets in the order that they came below:

 

• Fortnite is the new game that is breaking records left and right. Since the game can be downloaded for free, it has grown an incredibly large player base. Now those numbers have translated to how many people watch the game being played on Twitch. According to Fortnite Intel that tracks Twitch views and streams for Fornite, we see some impressive numbers. The most prominent games on Twitch such as League of Legends and PUBG are being crushed by Fortnite. In the past two weeks, the game has been watched for a total of 4,882 years, 208 days and streamed for a total of 246 years, 231 days. The image below shows a comparison to Fortnite big competitor PUBG. As Fornite is purple and has had a steady rise, PUBG in the green has fallen overall. Regarding sales, PUBG is still quite impressive and total players still playing is growing. However, Fornite being free and less violent has made it quite accessible.

 

• Rooster Teeth’s upcoming horror comedy is arriving. The film that is being directed by Owen Egerton and stars Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Rooster Teeth’s own Barbara Dunkelman is coming tonight at SXSW. A teaser trailer was released through Entertainment Weekly, but now the teaser trailer is out. The film will follow a group of 20 somethings attempt to survive a festival that turns out to be a death trap full of monsters and murderers. A worldwide release date has not been set or a way of distribution either. We can assume the film will be on YouTube Red, a possible one night only theatrical release, and a few other ways to stream the movie such as Netflix or Amazon video. Check out the trailer here:

 

• Generally, when a game is being tested, people play the game to see what works and what doesn’t. However, Ubisoft is coming up with a new plan to check their games for bugs in the future. If everything works, the AI will catch bugs before they are even in the game. This system was announced at a Ubisoft Developer Conference in Montreal. The system is being called Commit Assistant which is being fed past data from previous Ubisoft games to learn where mistakes have been made in the past. However, the system is in its early days and will not be in full use until it is fully ready which will take a long time. The company hopes to see this system used outside of the gaming industry to catch bugs in other technologies such as driverless cars or even our cell phones. The technology is a brilliant idea that will help make everyone’s lives easier and can better the tech that it is being used on.

The current world of media gives us constant news all the time. Things go so fast that you can easily miss something. Everything is moving too fast. We have a Guardians of the Galaxy heavy week alongside this is plenty of other things from Kevin Smith’s health scare, new information on the next Tarantino film, and some other exciting news!

• Spoiler for both Guardians of the Galaxy movies (if you have not then you are wasting your time by not watching those two films), but at the end of the first movie, the beloved Groot dies until a scene shows him as a baby in a pot filled with soil. The hype behind the sequel was there for many reasons, other than the first movie being fantastic was Baby Groot being a considerable part of the marketing. A few days ago, James Gunn confirmed that Groot is officially dead and that Baby Groot is his son. This news has blown up the internet and will change our views on the tree creature forever. See his Tweet below:

• Let’s knock out the other bit of Guardians news right now. After James Gunn responded to a fan, who asked to do him a favor by giving Mark Hamill a role in the third Guardians film. The attention came when Mark responded to the conversation. Here are the tweets:

The two do live nearby and seem genuinely interested in this Twitter exchange. Nobody should be too excited since nothing is entirely concrete, but it would be an excellent addition to the large cast of excellent actors who are in the MCU. Mark Hamill has an exceptional talent for both acting in a live action role and shines on the voice acting side of his career too. Fans of Mark and James, let’s keep our fingers crossed and not look away from Twitter to keep an eye on more developments on this story.

• Hollywood has had a terrible 2017 with so many sexual harassment and assault allegations that were going around. One of the biggest was Harvey Weinstein who manipulated young actresses for his gain. This has destroyed his reputation and even his company. The Weinstein company that Harvey and his brother Bob Weinstein founded together is now looking to file for bankruptcy. The Weinstein Co. board let out a statement regarding the bankruptcy. Here is a segment from the said statement in which it says, “While we recognize that this is an extremely unfortunate outcome for our employees, our creditors, and any victims, the Board has no choice but to pursue its only viable option to maximize the Company’s remaining value:  an orderly bankruptcy process,”.  The company still has a lot to do to get the process finalized along with payments to the victims of Harvey. The future for the company leads plenty of options that could potentially happen to the company such as another company buying it out. However, the negative press could make people avoid doing so. This process will continue to have updates in the weeks to come.

 

• Kevin Smith had a few comedy shows scheduled, but after the first show he started feeling nausea, sweating, and other symptoms, he went to the hospital. It turns out it was a heart attack. The filmmaker then tweeted that he was okay and gave some additional information. His LAD artery had been completely blocked which was the cause of the heart attack. Based on his tweets right after the incident, it appears the man still has his iconic sense of humor still intact. He is now home and going vegetarian in an attempt to be healthier. He released a video on YouTube detailing everything and thanking his friends, family, and hospital staff.

 

• Tarantino announced a while back that he was making a film based on the Charles Manson murders. Now we have some more light on the upcoming project. For his first time without collaborating with the Weinstein Company in which the director is going around to studios for his next film. After being worked on for five years. Margot Robbie is rumored to be playing as Sharon Tate, the famous actress who was brutally killed by Charles Manson’s group. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are also supposed to be in the film. The story that we know of will center around these three. Leonardo plays as Rick Dalton, an aging actor and along his side is Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth, Rick’s longtime stuntman. The two want to revive their career and get in touch with their neighbor Sharon Tate who will help them out. How this will get involved with Charles Manson and his followers is not confirmed. There is speculation that it will be a twist on history similar to Inglourious Basterds. The film will be called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and will start filming this summer. The film is scheduled to release on August 9, 2019.

 

• This last piece of news is quite creepy. In 2013 Curtis Lahr created a statue of Jason Voorhees and placed at the bottom of a lake in Minnesota. Now the story has gone viral, and it is just as terrifying as you can imagine. Bloody Disgusting reported this creation even though the video has been around for a few months. Now people are noticing. He placed the horrific and beautifully crafted statue at 120 feet down at the bottom of a favorite lake in Crosby, Minnesota. It is the end of the week so let us get into a quick roundup of the news in entertainment. A lot has happened, so let’s get caught up on a few of the highlights.

• The Punisher Season 2 is filming! Confirmation for the second season was announced in December of last year, but now the show is in the works. Since filming just started, we can expect the show to appear next year. There is not much information for now, but expect plenty of news on here when more light shines on season 2. Netflix will be giving us two shows to extend their Marvel series. Jessica Jones has her second season coming in a few weeks. Luke Cage is also getting a second season that we can expect to be released sometime this summer or fall. Be sure to check out the first season of The Punisher to see if you are interested in this upcoming second season. • No sequel plans for Rainbow Six Siege? That is right, Ubisoft says there are no current plans. This does not mean the franchise will stick to Siege forever, but it will be a while before we get another entry. The company plans on supporting the game for a total of 10 years. Whether that will happen or not is up to them. It looks like it is possible since the game’s popularity continues to grow. Recently it was reported the game has reached 27 million total players. Sorry to anyone who wants a sequel already, but you will have to wait more than seven more years. The game is currently in year three with a lot of essential plans coming in the coming weeks such as a temporary game mode called Outbreak that will have two more operators to play with.
•  Burnout Paradise is getting a 1080p remaster, that can also run at 4K. The cost will only be at $40 too. That is right racing fans, you are going to get one hell of a deal! Not only is the game going to look amazing, but the game will run even better. It is announced the game will run at 60 frames-per-second. “We’ve given Burnout Paradise a complete graphics overhaul, with high-resolution textures and a range of technical enhancements designed to deliver all the high-octane chaos with an almost irresponsible level of visual fidelity,” says EA. • Experts were having their estimates about how much Black Panther was going to do at the box office. However, the new Marvel flick destroyed the already high expectations. The previous record holder for the largest grossing opening weekend in February was Deadpool. The film had a lot of publicity, excellent marketing, and had that Valentine’s Day weekend. However, Black Panther had the PG-13 rating along with all of its hype by representing the diversity that has been lacking in many Marvel films. Deadpool opened with $132 million in its weekend. Black Panther had earned $242 million. On top of that, as of writing the film has made $520 million worldwide. The other records that the film has broken consist of the biggest non-sequel opening weekend, biggest solo superhero launch, biggest Friday-Sunday opening weekend during a holiday, the biggest opening for a non-white director, the highest grossing film in North America for a black director, biggest pre-summer opening weekend, and biggest Monday gross. It is safe to say that this was a major success.
• A rumor floated around recently that the Duffer brothers would be leaving Stranger Things after season three. Despite the brothers confirming the show being four seasons, it did worry people. Thankfully Netflix came in to crush the rumor with a tweet that said, “Don’t drop your Eggos. Rumors that the Duffer Bros are leaving Stranger Things after season 3 are false.” The brothers are currently writing the third season. We can expect the next season to be late this year or sometime next year.

• Not a lot of information is out about the sequel to the highly successful IT film that came out last year. The cast has said their dream actors who will play as the grown-up versions in the sequel. Both Sophia Lillis who played Beverly wants to see Jessica Chastain play as adult Beverly, but even director Andy Muschietti has said so too. Rumor has it that Jessica Chastain is in negotiations to play as Beverly in the sequel. However, the film is in such early stages so let’s take this with a grain of salt because you never know what might happen. IT Chapter 2 starts filming this summer and has an expected release date that is aiming for September 6, 2019.

A lot has happened in the world of movies and video games. Here we will be doing a quick rundown of some exciting highlights of news that have come out in the last week.

• The idea about a potential Call of Duty movie has been around for a long time. The ultimate plan is to build this franchise into its own universe similar to the MCU. Now sources are telling Variety that Sicario 2 director Stefano Sollima is in talks to direct the first of the upcoming franchise based off of the popular video games. Nothing is finalized, but it could lead to something potentially good. Video game movies are known for being terrible, so maybe with the right director, things can be turned around for the genre.
• Alex Garland is best known for his directorial debut with Ex Machina and his upcoming film Annihilation. During an AMA on Reddit, he was asked by Reddit user deadpool902, “In the massive wave of comic book films, Dredd is still to me among the most well-written, so my question to you is: If given a chance, which comic book characters would you want to write/direct?” Alex’s response was simply, “Swamp Thing.” This does not mean a whole lot, but with Swamp Thing’s popularity growing within the comics and being in the Injustice fighting games, this could potentially happen with or without Alex. Either way, it is exciting news that would be an excellent possibility for DC.
• It is no secret that DC has been working on getting a Joker origin movie out there and to not have Jared Leto as the iconic villain. The film is currently going to be directed by Todd Phillips who is best known for his work on the Hangover trilogy. Now Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to play as the Joker. According to reports by Variety, he has accepted the role. Initial interest in the film started with the legendary Martin Scorcese being attached to produce and with Todd Phillips being the director and writer, a lot of people got curious as to where this will go. The future plans that DC has is a bit confusing since Jared Leto is set to return to his role as the Joker for Suicide Squad 2. Making these separate standalone movies can bring back credibility to DC after its numerous films that have been brutalized by fans and critics.
• Everywhere you turn, there is another game being remastered or remade entirely. With the success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, a lot of people have been wondering if there will be a remaster of the Spyro games. Sources with Kotaku say that Activision is working on a remaster of the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy. Their sources say that there will be an official announcement in March and the remaster will come out sometime later this year for PS4 and PS4 Pro.
• Kingdom Hearts 3 got a massive update with a brand new trailer. The trailer shows that there will be a Monsters Inc. world and some new footage of gameplay. The game will feature three main sections to the game with about three worlds in each of those sections. After over a decade of waiting for the third entry, the release date will finally be announced in a few months at E3. To hold you over until then the trailer can be viewed below:

Some news is too short to have a full article. I have decided to try something new and give you all a few quick updates about what is going on in movies, music, or video games. Here we have a few video game updates that have come up in the last few days.

• id Software co-founder Tom Hall along with id Software designer John Romero who both recently confirmed on Twitter that DOOM protagonist Doom Guy, Commander Keen, and Wolfenstein protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz are all related. This is an excellent bit of information that will change our views while playing these games. Now maybe we can get a crossover between DOOM and Wolfenstein. 
• The wait for Red Dead Redemption 2 was so close. Rockstar has said in the last trailer that it is coming Spring 2018. Turns out Spring has turned into October. Today they have announced via Twitter that the game will come out October 26th. It is not the date anyone wanted, but we finally have a solid date. Let us hope that this time frame sticks.
• Take this next story with a grain of salt, but we might have a release date for Insomniac’s upcoming game Spider-Man. A retailer from Denmark called CoolShop has leaked a September 28, 2018, release date. What makes this interesting is the fact that CoolShop has correctly leaked a game’s release date before such as GTA V.
• Anthem has been delayed to a 2019 release date. This is not a surprise since the game was announced not that long ago along with some issues lately with EA titles. They probably want to take all the time possible to make sure that BioWare nails this game. Plus the game gets more room for itself since it would have been released this fall which is right next to the upcoming Battlefield game.
